Dirut BRI Sunarso Raih Penghargaan CEO Terbaik untuk Pembiayaan Berkelanjutan

As we approach the end of the year 2024, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk continues to show positive growth in the national banking industry. Recently, BRI’s President Director, Sunarso, was honored with The Best CEO award for the Widest Sustainable Financing Activities at the TOP CEO Indonesia Awards 2024 held on Friday, November 15th. This recognition was a result of his commitment to leading a sustainable green transformation.

The TOP CEO Indonesia Awards 2024 is an annual event organized by Tempo and IDN Financials to honor the best company leaders in the capital market. This year, the event felt even more special as it gave special mention to CEOs who successfully implemented environmentally, socially, and community-friendly policies and programs. These initiatives were deemed extraordinary and inspiring for the business world and the wider community.

The evaluation criteria included company performance and the implementation of sustainability programs during the CEO’s tenure. Sunarso successfully led the company to achieve significant growth in assets, equity, revenue, and net income, while also implementing sustainable programs that are pro-environment, social, and community.

In response to this award, Sunarso dedicated the achievement to all BRILiaN employees (BRI workers).

“I want to dedicate this award to the BRILiaN individuals who have made the best contributions to BRI and to Indonesia,” he said.

Furthermore, Sunarso emphasized that BRI’s achievement was inseparable from BRI Group’s success in maintaining excellent sustainable performance. By the end of the third quarter of 2024, BRI’s sustainable financing portfolio reached Rp764.8 trillion, making it the largest among all banks in Indonesia.

BRI’s sustainable credit focus remains on Sustainable Business Activity Credits (KKUB) totaling Rp764.8 trillion, consisting of social sector credit disbursements amounting to Rp677.1 trillion, environmentally conscious business activities (KUBL) credits of Rp83.3 trillion, and sustainability bond financing of Rp4.39 trillion.

KUBL credit disbursements are dominated by the environmentally friendly management of biological resources and land use sector, reaching Rp55.58 trillion, green transportation at Rp10.97 trillion, environmentally friendly products at Rp7.97 trillion, and renewable energy at Rp6.18 trillion.

In terms of operations and environmental aspects, BRI has been calculating greenhouse gas emissions since 2020. In 2022, BRI refined this calculation to include Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions, including financed emissions, which are emissions generated from BRI’s investments and financing activities.

Based on these calculations, BRI has set a target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions using a 2022 baseline year and has set a Net Zero Emission target for 2050 for Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions categories, including financed emissions, in line with the Science-Based Target Initiatives (SBTi). Carbon emission reduction efforts are made through various business and operational initiatives to manage carbon emissions.
